Why School?

So I am sitting here in Bio--I'm done my work, don't get your knickers in a twist--wondering why we spend so much time in school learning things that are irrelevant to what we want to do after high school. I spent an hour listening about Rational Functions, and how we will need them in math 12...I'm not taking math 12. So why am I in the prerequisite for it? I would like to know how many people in the real world use those kind of ridiculous math problems on a day to day basis. And isn't that what the Internet is for?
