Favourite Item: Aran Sweater

Friday, May 04, 2012

There is a tradition amongst the women of my family: the convenient "borrowing" of clothes. In this borrowing, the item is rarely returned [I recently experienced a small miracle when my sister returned a shirt of mine she's had for months. I think I stole it from her in the first place... but that's besides the point... it's my favourite shirt.]. So the other day, upon my return from university for the summer, I discovered my mother had acquired a wonderful sweater from my sister. Of course, I proceeded to adopt said sweater. Oh my gosh! It's glorious. As a woman of Irish descent [at least from one side of the family], my mother has stood by the Aran sweater as long as I can remember - and I'm guessing long before I was even around. This particular Aran sweater doesn't disappoint!

This classic Irish fisherman's sweater is a great wardrobe piece. Warm, comfortable, and best of all: cute

-and for the wetter spring days, emulate Her Royal Highness by topping off [or I suppose bottoming out] your Aran with a pair of Hunter wellies - bringing the sweater back to it's highland roots. (Yes, Hunters are Scottish, and Arans are Irish... but we can set aside our differences for fashion, can't we?)

Stay warm this spring! Apparently it's not going to let up on the colder weather just yet - at least not on this coast...
