Yes and Yes!

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Hi everyone! My first post back from my little holiday is something you should get excited about. I interviewed the lovely Sarah Von of yes and yes about her blog, her positivity and asked her to give you guys some tips on how to start your own blog! I hope you enjoy her answers to my questions, and check out her blog yesandyes.org

1. How did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I wanted to read a blog that addressed all the aspects of modern life in a funny, intelligent way.  I was frustrated that so many blogs were limited to one topic - just fashion or just design or just self development. Apparently I can't be bothered to visit lots of different blogs to get my fix (read: short attention span).  So I just decided to start my own blog that covered all that stuff.

And included the occasional haiku about Brazilian waxes.

2. What is your favorite part of blogging?

Writing a post that I know resonates with people - or being able to share something that I've learned the hard way and that I wish someone would have told me.  If there's one thing that I hope readers take away from reading Yes and Yes it's that there are no rules.  You can make up your own.  Just because everyone around you is doing something a certain way, doesn't mean you have to do that.  Your life choices are exactly as valid as everybody else's.

3. Where do you find inspiration for your blog?

Everywhere!  Conversations with friends, current events, things that I witness in real life.  When I'm feeling a creative dry spell coming on, I flip through www.weheartit.com

4. You have a lot of inspirational sayings on your blog; what is a saying you try to live by?

On a daily basis, I try to remember that "you live with what you tolerate."  Life is exactly as awesome or as difficult as you make it.

5. You're so positive! How do you stay positive, even on the worst days?

Oh, there are plenty of days when I'm gloomy or sulky!  My instant gratification treatment for the blues is: carbs + cheese + funny youtube cat videos.

But after I do that and get a stomachache, I make a list of things that I'm grateful for, go for a walk around my lovely neighborhood, skype a far flung girlfriend or listen to some Shakira.  Her hips don't lie, you guys.

6. If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting a blog, what would you say?

Write about things that matters to *you.*  We all relate to people who are passionate about something.  If you're really, really into fashion, then by all means write about it!  But just because everybody else is writing makeup tutorials or taking pictures of their outfits or photographing their breakfasts doesn't mean you have to.  If you want to blog about the political situation in Burma or your funny neighbor or your cute boyfriend - do it! Really, if you're passionate about something it will come through in your writing, people will see that and keep reading you.

Well I have your solution stereomood.com provides playlists for any mood, or occasion for which you feel the need to have music!
