What Is Love? [Baby Don't Hurt Me]

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I am bringing it out. The ever clichéd, over thought, over used, just in general annoying, topic: what is love? Firstly, of course, there are many types of love. Familial love, pet love, friend love, love of food, love of shoes, love of McQueen, and of course, romantic love. Personally, my favorite kind is that of shoes and McQueen--it's easier not to get hurt that way. Shoes will never tell you that you aren't 'marriage potential' or tell you 'it's just not working anymore' or 'we fight too much'. Shoes will always make you feel beautiful, and will never make you want to eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's. You have to admit the romantic kind, even though it sucks sometimes, is one of the best things, though. But what is it? What defines love? I have heard many opinions of what it is. Some say it's just happiness; others say it's when you can't be apart; some say it's when you would do anything for someone; or one of my favorites, that it's when no matter how much you hate the person at that moment, you still want to be with them. I believe it is all of these, yet none of these. Love is whatever you want it to be. It has to be different for everyone. I'm not telling what it is for me though. That's a secret. You'll have to get me in a heart to heart mood before you get that kind of information.

So I have another question about love. How soon is too soon? I know I've asked this same sort of question before, but I want to go into more depth. So. Love at first sight? Doubt it. I think it's possible that you can tell if you are going to fall for someone the first time you talk to them, but that doesn't necessarily happen. Lust at first sight? Yes. And that's a whole 'nother can of worms. So when do you fall in love? Can you be in love with someone after a week? A month? Ever? And if you can be in love, can you ever stop loving fully?

Sorry that this is totally incoherent, and patchy writing, but I just was having thoughts, and you know how that ends up. Muddled. Feel free to comment to let me know your thoughts--I know I never say to comment, but I'm definitely interested in people's thoughts on this one.
